During a major leadership shift, Aya Miyaguchi, who has been the Executive Director of the Ethereum Foundation (EF) since 2018, has been elevated to the position of President. This announcement on February 25, 2025, is a new beginning for the EF as it aims to enhance institutional relationships and expand Ethereum’s vision and culture.
Miyaguchi spoke highly of the new position, saying that it will enable her to carry on serving the EF’s institutional relationships and reach further with Ethereum’s vision and culture. She stressed the value of Ethereum being permissionless, pointing out that open discussion and varied viewpoints make the network stronger and more prosperous.
While at the helm as Executive Director of the Ethereum Foundation, she has seen the foundation overcome several milestones such as successfully conducting Ethereum hard forks, client interoperability workshops, and Devcon organization. Her contributions have not gone unnoticed by the Ethereum co-founder, Vitalik Buterin, who says the successes are, at least partially, owed to her leadership. COINDESK
Miyaguchi reasserted the EF’s resolve to preserve Ethereum’s values of credible neutrality and decentralization. She highlighted the company philosophy of subtraction, a design principle intended to eliminate systemic imbalances so that Ethereum is able to continue adapting and not controlled by any one person or group.
In her new role as President, Miyaguchi is expected to lead in long-term strategic initiatives such as the continued evolution of Ethereum technology, cultivating community involvement, and working with an ever-changing regulatory environment.
